Local Skills for Productivity Alliances

Local Skills for Productivity Alliances (LSPA) have been established in each sub-region in the South East. There are six Alliances operating in Berkshire, Hampshire and Isle of Wight, Milton Keynes/Oxfordshire/Buckinghamshire (MKOB), Kent and Medway, Surrey and Sussex. These are made up of key local strategic partners and local businesses. Each LSPA is chaired by a Business Person of local standing who also attends the RSPA meetings to represent the views of their LSPA at a regional level.

All Have developed their own framework plans which crystallise the shared vision and collaborative action between partners to better meet employers' needs for skills in their own county. Using a 'demand-led' approach partners within the six LSPAs are committed to creating a new dynamic at local level to transform business support services and the right supply of skills for employers.

Aim:
The main focus is employers and ensuring that public funding partners with responsibility for skills and education respond to these business needs where there is market failure.

Local alliances have the following objectives:

  • Provide a skills forum for employers, business intermediaries, employer representatives to inform workforce development funders and providers of what employers really want.
  • Lead, and act in a supportive and co-operative manner to address how partners can better identify and meet the demand of business
  • Identify where skills, business support and employment services can be aligned and 'joined up' to ensure a consistent and cohesive skills offer to employers
  • Contribute and instigate delivery initiatives in each county by addressing market failure where gaps are identified
  • Inform and contribute to the delivery of regional priorities and associated action.
