Free breakfast workshop:
Save money and grow your business by minimising construction waste

Date: Friday 16 July 2010
Times: 9.00am – 12.30pm
Venue: Best Western The Russell Hotel, 136 Boxley Road, Maidstone, Kent, ME14 2AE

Pathway To Zero Waste (PTZW) in partnership with the South East Centre for the Built Environment is running a series of free workshop to demonstrate tools and techniques you can use to minimise the amount of cosntruction waste generated and sent to landfill.This will help you:

  • win new business – because increasingly, your customers will demand that you demonstrate how you will manage waste to cut costs;
  • strengthen client relationships – by demonstrating how you can help reduce cost in a project for mutual benefit and minimise its impact on the environment; and
  • increase profit – by understanding how a smarter approach to waste management can cut your overheads and therefore increase your profit.

Described by one delegate as 'Thought provoking - provided new ideas for change' feedback from the first workshop in Reading earlier this month also showed that:

  • 90% of delegates rated the event was as either 'excellent' or 'good';
  • 80% of delegates felt that they could reduce waste and costs as a result;
  • 75% of delegates stated they would implement new ways of reducing waste and money as a result.

Every year, around 2.5m tonnes of construction waste is sent to landfill in the South East. At 40% of the total, that means the construction industry sends more waste to landfill than any other sector. Not only is this environmentally unsustainable, it also makes no economic sense. Because studies show that the value of this material, plus the labour cost of handling it on site, adds up to ten times more than the disposal cost. And when you consider that much of this material could be reused, recycled or used to produce energy instread of going to landfill, the business case for addressing this issue is clear.
