South East Business Awards Announce Sponsors: EDF Energy, QinetiQ and Shoosmiths all pledge support
23 November 2007
Companies from the South East are showing support for the region’s business community by sponsoring the South East Business Awards, the first award scheme of its kind to focus on both recognising success and helping businesses develop ideas for further enhancement. The Awards are managed the South East England Development Agency (SEEDA).
Sponsoring organisations include EDF Energy; QinetiQ, Europe’s largest R&D defence company; and Shoosmiths Solicitors. The sponsors are directly supporting one of the eight Award Categories.
EDF Energy is sponsoring the Sustainable Business – Workplace and Community Award, which will recognise companies that have demonstrated a commitment to the community through initiatives such as staff volunteering or funding projects.
Commenting on their role as a sponsor, Hilary Walkman from EDF Energy’s PR and Sponsorship Team said: “The South East is a leading region for business commitment to the workforce and community - it is important to encourage its growth. We feel that sponsoring the Sustainable Business – Workplace and Community Award is a great opportunity to share our expertise with other companies in the region and to celebrate the South East’s exceptional talent and success.”
QinetiQ and Shoosmiths are co-sponsoring the Innovation and Creativity Award, open to businesses that have created a groundbreaking product/service or business process that is an innovative development in the company’s sector.
Dr Maghin Tamilarasan, Account Director, Government at QinetiQ commented: "QinetiQ is pleased to be co-sponsoring the Innovation and Creativity category of the South East Business Awards 2008. As a company we are working closely with SEEDA on many innovative research and development programmes involving the South East. We therefore consider this an exciting opportunity to be associated with an initiative to foster further innovation in the region."
South East Business Awards Chair Jeff Alexander added: “The South East Business Awards offer the chance for sponsors and participants to celebrate business achievements in the region, and it’s great to see companies lending their support. Each sponsor can offer participating companies valuable feedback, particularly given the sponsors’ own outstanding experiences in business.”
The other South East Business Award categories are:
- International Business, sponsored by UK Trade & Investment
- Manufacturing
- Excellence in Skills & Development, sponsored by the Learning & Skills Council
- Young Entrepreneur
- Sustainable Business – Environment, sponsored by the Environment Agency
- Business Growth, sponsored by Business Link
Entries for the Awards are now being accepted at www.southeastbusinessawards.co.uk. The deadline for applications is 28 November. Winners of the South East Business Awards will be announced on 6th March 2008 at a ceremony at Ascot Racecourse.
