The Princess Royal to Open Weald Information Centre

16 November 2005

The new Weald Information Centre, which has been established in the Old Fire Station, Cranbrook, Kent is to be opened by HRH The Princess Royal on Friday 9th December 2005.

The Princess Royal will formally open the Information Centre and meet representatives of Borough and local Parish Councils, representatives of the local community, tourism and view works of art by local artists.

The Centre which has been funded by the South East England Development Agency (SEEDA) supported by Tunbridge Wells Borough Council, Business Link Kent and Cranbrook Parish Council, will promote tourism, local businesses and help co-ordinate the voluntary services in the area. Staff at the centre will also be offering a wide range of services including photocopying and secretarial support The Centre comes complete with a smart conference room available for hire.

Housing and Community Policing surgeries have already been introduced on a weekly basis. Cranbrook Parish Council has moved its office into the new centre.

The need for a Weald Information Centre was identified following a health check undertaken by the Cranbrook Rural Partnership, which amongst other projects also identified the need for a Youth Centre in the town to serve the wider rural community – a project that has now been approved and has received financial backing from SEEDA.

Kim Fletcher, Chairman of the Cranbrook Rural Partnership said "Through the Rural Partnership, the community has put an enormous amount of time and into projects that are now providing previously unavailable services for residents, young people and local businesses in the area. Our original aim of developing a stronger community spirit is now happening".
