National Airports Strategy Statement
16th December 2003
"In common with all the Regional Development Agencies (RDAs), the
South East England Development Agency's (SEEDA's) view is that a third
runway at Heathrow is the most important ingredient in the national airports
strategy. The Secretary of State's decision for the development of Stansted
first will aid the economic development of the South as a whole.
"As a next step, SEEDA proposes to work with the other RDAs to
identify the short and medium-term impacts on the economy and on aviation
capacity which will result from the implementation of the Government's
recommendations. The Agency hopes to ensure that the economic advantages
afforded to the rest of the UK by Heathrow and Gatwick in the medium and
long-term will be fully explored. SEEDA is also keen to continue to support
Heathrow's case for further capacity increase with an overall framework
of sustainability and appropriate surface access."
