NEW APPOINTMENT SET TO MAKE SIGNIFICANT
IMPACT ON
NEW AND YOUNG IN BUSINESSES IN THE MEDWAY AREA
27th October 2003
As part of the drive to consolidate and grow Medway's
burgeoning business community, Alastair Dean has been appointed
as the new Director of the Medway Enterprise Gateway. The Gateways
are a new joint SEEDA/Business Link initiative that will concentrate
on developing and nurturing entrepreneurs and young companies
within the general business community. As Director, Alastair's
focus will be on increasing the survival rate of new businesses
in the Medway area, accelerating the growth and expansion of
young companies, and encouraging entrepreneurial thinking.
Alastair explained why he is excited about his new role, "I've
had over fifteen years experience working in the private sector
and have extensive expertise in marketing, management, systems
and innovation within large and small businesses. In particular,
I understand the types of problems that many new or small businesses
face early on or during a significant growth period. The Medway
Enterprise Gateway initiative means that these companies can
be helped to anticipate problems, find solutions together and
thereby improve business survival rates in this region and help
to make it a more prosperous place."
The Medway Enterprise Gateway is part of a new regional network
of business support services, supporting the nurturing and developing
of entrepreneurs and young businesses through the provision of
physical incubation accommodation, business support networks
and other targeted services. 'Enterprise Gateways' is
a joint initiative by the South East England Development Agency
(SEEDA) and Business Link, with 20 planned to be developed in
the next five years.
Jeff Alexander, Director of Business and International Division
of the South East England Development Agency (SEEDA) commenting
on Alastair's appointment said, "We are delighted
that Alastair will be joining the Enterprise Gateway Initiative's
team. From his work at GlaxoSmithKline and more recently his
personal experience of running his own successful consultancy,
Alastair has a breadth of knowledge that will be invaluable in
helping make the Medway Enterprise Gateway a great success and
valuable resource for new and young businesses."
