European Initiatives

Biosmile - The overall objective of the BioSmile project is to strengthen and promote the competitiveness of North West Europe in the field of biotechnology, through transnational cooperation within and between polycentric urban areas, medium-sized cities and their regions in the BioSmile region.

European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) - Has been established to reduce the gap between the levels of development of various regions and the extent to which the least-favoured regions and islands (including rural areas) are lagging behind.

European Regional Policy Event (ERPE) - Sandown Race Course, 24 March 2004. Speakers - Matthew Brooke, Neil Bond and Marianne Neville-Rolfe.

European Social Fund (ESF) - The revised European Social Fund Regional Development Plan for the South East runs from 2002 to the end of 2003.

Grow - The Grow project is a €7.5 million InterregIIIC programme and runs from June 2005 to December 2007.

Joint European Committee (JEC) - The JEC was set up by SEEDA and the Regional Assembly in June 1999 to 'consider and make recommendations to their respective bodies on European issues that affect the South East and on behalf of those bodies to promote and lobby for the region's interests in Brussels'.

PEOPLE - explore the opportunities for new forms of employment and for improving well-being and cohesion in the frame of the demographic and societal changes.

Power Interregional Programme
SEEDA leads this programme to provide funding, promoting Low Carbon Economies in seven regions across Europe, including the South East. All interested parties can find out more from http://www.powerprogramme.eu.
