Steering Group Meeting Update
Following bilateral and sub-regional group consultation and the visioning event, SQW presented their findings to the Steering Group.
Pease see the presentation under 'Further Information' we would welcome comments. An emerging high level strategy will be develped in April 2007.
The Regional Economic Strategy (RES) for South East England 2006-2016 provides a renewed framework for sustainable prosperity in the South East. The strategy is based upon three broad economic contours (the Inner, Rural and Coastal South East) cross cut by a range of urban areas (including the designated Growth Areas, Regional Hubs and Diamonds for Investment and Growth).
The RES commits SEEDA to work with partners across the Coastal South East (Coastal South East is broadly represented by Kent Thames Gateway, East Kent and Ashford, Sussex Coast, South Hampshire and the Isle of Wight) to develop a coastal strategy to focus on maximising the area's economic potential in a sustainable and inclusive way. SEEDA and partners are now taking forward that commitment as part of the work to develop the RES Implementation Plan.
SEEDA and partners have commissioned Consultants SQW to support them in developing a framework, to test and order the priorities which have been identified in the RES.

SEEDA is aware of the considerable work which has already taken place in many areas, with well developed strategies already in place and working successfully. These strategies will not be revisited or modified, but SQW will be looking at them, to collate the priorities and to test them against RES priorities. This will then be used to inform our implementation plan, which will enable us and our partners to deliver the challenging targets the region has set in its' new RES.
Supporting SQW will be the Steering Group, chaired by Paul Lovejoy, SEEDA's Executive Director of Strategy and comprising representatives of the relevant Economic Partnerships and other partners, stakeholders and businesses engaged in the Coastal South East. Additionally, although the Surrey & Sussex Area Team is leading on this, we are involving our colleagues in the Hampshire and Isle of Wight and Kent Area Teams, as well as other SEEDA specialist. There will be an emphasis on participation and consultation, to ensure we engage with the range of diverse interests and knowledge centres available in the Coastal South East and beyond.

To start, SQW will be seeking initial scoping discussions, the majority to be conducted by booked telephone conversations and group consultations. If you wish to make a written statement please email coastal@seeda.co.uk.
