Archery World Cup 2007
Around 400 of the globe's greatest archers visited Dover from 31 st July to 5 th August 2007 to take part in the prestigious World Cup Archery competition - the first time it has ever been held in the United Kingdom. SEEDA supported this event, which showcased Kent and the wider South East region to an international audience as a world-class destination for sports events, a key business location and the gateway to Europe and beyond. In the same way that the recent successful Tour de France helped put the South East on the international sporting map; World Cup Archery also demonstrated the region's ability to stage a major competition in the run-up to the 2012 Olympics. It shows that we have the skills and infrastructure to deliver them to a world class standard. The richness and diversity of the region's cultural assets are major factors in attracting inward investment and making the South East a desirable place to live, work, and do business. This prestigious sporting event will create greater potential to boost economic growth presenting the South East as a competitive, professional and desirable destination for hosting sports events. Events such as this can help raise the profile of the area and are consistent with the Major Sports Events Strategy which is a partnership between SEEDA, Sport England, Tourism South East and Culture South East and the South East Offer for 2012: Compete, Create, Collaborate which sets out key priorities to ensure that the opportunities presented by the 2012 Games are maximised to the region as a whole. World Cup Archery has demonstrated that the South East is an unrivalled location for major international sporting events, delivering a real legacy for Dover and Kent and engendering a sense of civic pride to all residents and communities and SEEDA is pleased to associate itself with this World Class Event.
