Business Engagement with the SET Base in the South East 20/06/05

The aim of this report is to investigate levels of business engagement and satisfaction with the Science Engineering and Technology (SET) base in the region including information on personnel, facilities and resources for research and technology found in universities (and other higher education institutions) and public research institutes.

The research reported in both Phases 1 and 2 is aimed at exploring in particular the following two aspects of firms' external relationships: (i) the nature and extent of business links with universities and research institutes; (ii) the importance of location in the South East region for business enterprises. It was agreed that in Phase 2 a few crucial additional themes would be
explored including the general characteristics, origins and entrepreneurship, innovative activity, inter-firm networks, scale and networking.
