Regional Employment & Skills Workshop
Baylis House, Slough, 16 September 2009
This year’s Regional Employment and Skills Workshop took place on 16 September 2009 in Slough and attracted around 100 delegates, including many private and public sector employers. Chaired by the Regional Minister, Jonathan Shaw MP, the morning event focused on the business support available from Government and how employers are making effective use of this support to respond to the recession and develop the skills they need for the future. This included a spotlight on the Government’s Backing Young Britain campaign to address the particular difficulties currently faced by young people trying to get into employment or training. The event comprised a number of practical presentations from employers as well as table discussions on some topical issues:
- Providing opportunities for young people
- Training in the recession and investing in recovery
- Contributing to and influencing employment and skills for the future
Outcomes from the day are being fed back to Government and will be used to inform the work of regional partners over the coming year.
In addition to the presentations given at the Workshop, a number of other useful documents and web links are available below. Podcasts of the highlights of the workshop will be available in the next couple of weeks.
